It’s called the “Pomodoro Technique”, named after a kitchen timer that looks like a tomato.
Invented by Francesco Cirillo when he was a University student in the late 1990s. This technique uses a timer to break work time into 25 minute intervals, and then you take a break.
*There are 5 Basic Steps to use the technique:
- Decide on the task to be done
- Set the pomodoro timer to x minutes (traditionally 25)
- Work on the task until the timer rings; record with an x
- Take a short break (3-5 minutes)
- Every four “pomodori”, take a longer break (15–30 minutes)

I’ve been using kitchen timers for time management in my office for years.
They sit on my desk here when I need to watch or restrict my time, or if I have something on the stove I need to pay attention to! Now I think I’ll start tracking my work time and get my owl timer to interrupt me every 25 minutes.
My favorite timer is my trusty ‘owl’ – I LOVE Owls!
My owl timer has really made time management much easier – because
I’m always saying “Owl Long?”
